Challenge:
Elite Manufacturing had a dynamic situation with respect to forecasting electricity requirements, and therefore energy costs, which made budgeting difficult. In addition, Elite wanted to take advantage of lower supply rates for their electricity needs during the off-peak periods, when wholesale power prices can be lower on an hourly basis. Elite desired a strategic approach to combine the budget certainty for the forecasted portion of their electricity supply, along with the market based index supply, for the remainder of their electricity requirements.
mc2 Solution:
After several meetings to evaluate the desired objectives, mc2 developed a program to stabilize the electricity rates for the forecasted portion of Elite’s electricity requirements, while incorporating a market-based price for the incremental portion. Through the use of the mc2 Choice product approach, Elite was able to accurately estimate the electricity supply costs for a known quantity of power over a specific period of time, while having the opportunity to take advantage of lower-cost supply for the unknown or variable portion of the power supply requirements.
